To Listen or Not to Listen...

So we missed week 12's picture... bummer. But today we're starting week 13!! That means we're about to enter our second trimester!!

I've been trying to decide if I'm going to go to my next prenatal or cancel it - the midwife told me that if I don't want to hear the baby's heartbeat again I should just cancel it because that's pretty much all they're going to do. Here's my dilemma. I'm a girl, so I really really WANT to hear the baby's heartbeat again!! It's so amazing!! I LOVED it!! But I keep hearing contradicting information. The midwife doing my prenatal care told me that all the doppler does is pick up sound waves from my belly - it doesn't emit anything of its own. A friend just recently said, though, that the doppler is thought to be MORE dangerous than an ultrasound because it is more concentrated. The ultrasound emits its own soundwaves into the belly which bounce off of shapes (aka baby) and send back images.

I could REALLY use some advice here, friends!! Or some research to back up either side?? All I've found is research backing up the midwife, but that's likely because she's in the medical field, and sometimes the more naturally minded articles are harder to find.

Suggestions??

11 Weeks and a Heartbeat!!

And here's week 11! My belly is actually starting to poke out a little now - still don't look PREGNANT, but I'm looking bigger!!

Oh yeah!! I almost forgot!! About a week and a half ago we went in for our second prenatal - all of my bloodwork came back great. Even my iron! AAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD..... we heard the baby's heartbeat!!! It was so exciting! David giggled a little bit :)
The baby's heartrate was 165!!

Week 10 Pic

Here's our picture from week 10!! It's a little late, but we DID take it!! I'm also going to upload week 11's picture today! There's not much of a difference between the two.
Here's week 10!!

No 9 Week Pic Due to OTHER Excitement!!

Sorry folks, we missed week 9's picture because we've had so much excitement lately... While traversing a very steep hill playing capture the flag, David stepped wrong and heard something snap! Low and behold - it was his ankle!!

That was all on Saturday night while on the youth retreat, and Sunday afternoon after we got back we headed to the emergency room. AS you can see, David was HORRIBLY upset about being in the emergency room -

The WHOLE time we were there he did wheelie after wheelie! These pictures are on my cell phone, so they're not fabulous, but I HAD to capture this event!!

Yesterday we went and got David's cast on... The process was surprisingly simple! Last night, however, neither David nor I got any sleep because the cast was too tight and was hurting him so badly... We're going back today to see if they can do anything about it. We'll let you know!!

I also have my second prenatal appointment today. I think they're just going to tell me the results of my blood tests, but I'll let you know!!

I've Been Demoted.

David graduates in December, as many of you know, and today David got his new Stihl chain saw as his graduation present from me and the big Verderys!!!
I got a really great deal, too!! I bought the saw, and the guy at the store gave me the file for the saw and the CASE for the saw (a $50 value, folks) FREE!!! I was pretty stoked.
David was SOOOOOOOOOO excited!! On the ride home from Athens, he sat in the BACK seat and caressed his new toy all the way home. It was pretty funny.
Here are a few pics, and here's a link to the video of David and his new baby's first run:

Oh, and the Stihl hat was on PREchainsaw, folks.

8 Weeks and a Prenatal!!

Sorry I am so late getting these pictures up!!
On the day that we turned 8 weeks, we had our first prenatal appointment with the Athens Regional Midwives!!
We went in and spoke to the social worker so that she was sure we were both sane, and then I talked to a midwife named Tere (pronounced "Terry", not "Tear", Natalie!!). She was GREAT!! I told her my medical history and then she asked me if I wanted to do some tests at my  next prenatal that checks to see how likely we are to have a baby with Cystic Fibrosis, Downs Syndrome, etc. We said no and there was NO pressure! It was great! Then she asked if we wanted to have an ultrasound done at the next appointment. When we said that we didn't, she TORE UP the form and said, "No problem! We don't even have to look at this anymore!"
It was so nice.
Then I peed in a cup and they drew some blood and David and I were on our way!!

Here are a couple of pictures we snapped on the way out from our appointment, and my 8 week picture!!!

Ain't he a cutie??

This one is a little blurry - it was rainy. 8 weeks!!

Fabulous Friday!!

We had a REALLY great day today!! David suggested that we go ride horses at Jon & Noelle's, so we spent the morning riding! It was FABULOUS!! We only had ONE get-away-horse moment!
When we came home, Erich, Tyler, and David played Bocce and then we ate hot dogs and s'mores over the fire pit!
We had such a good time! The evening ended with Jen and I cooking dinner for the fam.
We had such a great Friday!!

Week 7!!

Today David and I took our week 7 picture! I gotta say, I'm pretty SHOCKED at the difference in my belly from week 6 to week 7. I feel a BIT like a fat cow, but you know, these things happen!!
