ZION!!!

Hello Everyone,
Sorry it's been taking so long to get the pictures up. Morgan and I are in school now and we haven't had much free time with wedding showers, book buying, and the lake. Well, after Bryce we went on to Zion National Park. The day after we got there we rode in some beat up suburban that barely passed as a shuttle up this crazy dirt road that let out at a trail head. It was about a 45 min. drive which we spent mostly behind an suv filled with people with very... uh... nervous stomachs. I don't know what he had for breakfast, but it sure didn't look good coming out of the back window! Anyway, we were let out at a creek and the "shuttle" driver said "Follow that." We followed it. The creek started out in a big field with cows and was about ten feet wide in most parts. I tried to keep my feet dry for about a mile, but then gave up and just trudged through with my boots. morgan, by this point, had already been completely drinched from the knee down. We got to some of the narrow parts about 2 miles in. and that's where the pictures start.

This is actually on the second day. We started at the drop off point and hiked to our campsite that was 8 miles in. A ranger came up that evening and made sure we were in the right spot. He camped in another site down the river and the next morning took this picture.

This was an awesome spot. Right in front of me there was a huge rock wall with just a thin, tall sliver of light hitting it.

I really liked this spot. As you can see in some of these pictures the creek definately grew as we went down. The flash floods are really dangerous here because it is so narrow and there's no place to go, but we survived. In some places the rock walls enclosing the river were 20 feet apart and 2000 feet tall! The whole hike was about 16 miles long which usually we could do in a pretty long day, but since this was through a river it proved to be very challenging to do even in 2 days.

This was a hike we did the next day still in Zion. It was called angels landing. Over a 2.5 mile hike we climbed about 1800 feet and traversed along little more than a cliff face with a chain railing on it. Great view that was definately worth the hike and climb.

I'll try to post again soon.

From Mesas to Hoodoos

SO, we ended up leaving Sand dunes a day early and slept in the car in a parking lot. The next morning we woke up and went into Mesa Verde and took a tour through the Ruins which was pretty amazizing! We went around and took some hikes after that.
The next day we drove to Arches NP where it was HOT all day. We went on a hike to delicate arch(the one on all the calenders and stuff). After that we took a hike Through "The Devil's Garden" where we saw five more arches including landscape arch which was my(David's) favorite. Morgan's favorite was Partition on that hike. That night we sat up on a big rock and watched the sunset.
The next day we went to Bryce Canyon and just chilled out for the day. We woke up early the next morning and went on the wall street hike. most of it was closed due to a rock fall, but we saw some of it. We also went on the peekaboo trail and queens trail.

The first picture is us at Mesa Verde on our tour. The second picture is us at delicate arch where a guy from Mississippi took our picture. Third, just some hoodoos at Bryce canyon. The fourth is Morgan aka. the strongest woman in the world. Look at those muscles bulge!

Coloradoans

You may wonder about the title of our post, but throughout the last two weeks out of extensive research we have discovered an alarming fact. Coloradoans don't like to share. The trail that is. We have nearly been run off of sidewalks, cliffs, and mountains because of these path hungry Americans. We've decided that every person in every state who does not move over when passing and just ignores the presence of oncoming traffic of any kind MUST be from Colorado. This is truly just an overgeneralization of a type of people we've found in the last two weeks. Now to the real news and pictures.

Our first park was Great Sand Dunes National Park. The first picture is David(ME) conquering the sand dunes. They tried to burn our feet off, but still really awesome. Second picture is the Medano lake that we hiked to the second day(10 miles, over 3000 ft. vertical climb). It was pretty cool seeing sand dunes and walking through snow all in one day! It was a very rough climb and the last two miles went slow, but we got to the top. Morgan got nauseous, a headache, and couldn't eat. I think maybe it was a little alttitude sickness at 12,000 ft. above sea level. The fourth picture is our friend. We met him at the lake when I was cookin supper. He seemed nice at first, but I soon figured out he was just after me for my Bear Creek soup.I think we officially "broke up" when I threw a rock at his face. I believe He was a marmot or badger or groundhog or something. Later we tied up a mardger hog bag instead of a bear bag to ensure our next meal! The next day we just decided to walk the 13 miles out to the car and head on to Mesa Verde early.
